Biography

Balboa is an eight-piece live band from Eindhoven.

They perform their own work, influenced by Afrofunk from the 70s.

Names like Ebo Taylor, Hugh Masakela and Fela Kuti are the sources of inspiration for Balboa.

On top of that Ricardo Leverock from the hip-hop collective Damn puts a layer of hip-hop on the music that fits perfectly.

Balboa bridge the gap between afrofunk and hip-hop with a good dose of soul, resulting in a super swinging feel-good vibe, made for dancing.

Balboa have played live twice at the Bluenote sessions in the Frits Philips concert hall, The Breda jazz festival and at jazz on the Maas where Balboa stood up among the Dutch jazz icons such as Hans Dulfer and Benjamin Herman. This August, Balboa will play at the Zelenkovac jazz festival in Bosnia and their first EP will be released on April 4th.
